Emporia High soccer came out firing Thursday night, rolling past Highland Park 9-1 at Spartan Field.
The Spartans wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with Braxton Pugh finding the back of the net early for the second straight game.
Brayden Sailer continued his strong stretch, with a hat trick after scoring four in Tuesday’s win. Emporia High took a 6-0 lead into halftime.
Danny Magana, Ricky Ramos, Jairo Figueroa and Cole Faulkner also found the back of the net for the Spartans.
The Black and Red reached the mercy-rule mark in the 69th minute to close out the 9-1 victory.
Pugh said playing at home provides some extra motivation.
Head coach Victor Ibarra has also seen Sailer take another step forward in his senior season, both on and off the field.
With the win, Emporia improves to 6-1 on the season. The Spartans return to action Monday when they travel to Ottawa.
