Trial has been delayed in the case of a one-time Emporia State student charged in federal court with distributing child sex abuse materials.
Attorneys for Jackson Trimble successfully gained the delay this week after telling Judge John Broomes there were items missing from the initial discovery process through federal prosecutors — despite over 48,000 pages of discovery and 2 audio-video files. Judge Broomes gave the defense additional time to receive, review and research the additional discovery materials that come in.
Trimble, a music education major at ESU when he was arrested, was arraigned in early June. He is charged with 7 counts of distribution from late August to early December last year. He is also charged with 1 count of tampering with records after allegedly trying to “alter, destroy, mutilate and conceal” cell phone records this past December.
Trial was supposed to begin October 5. Now it is tentatively set to begin December 14 in Wichita, with a new motions deadline of November 23 and a status conference to follow Nov 30.
