Improvements continue to become evident as part of a renovation and expansion of Emporia’s Fire Station 2.
Fire Chief Brandon Beck, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show this past Friday, says a lot of significant work has already happened.
Beck says the expansion at Station 2 and the new headquarters building downtown had several several goals: safer environs for firefighters and more space for equipment at the top of the list.
Beck says the new headquarters has been well-received by firefighters.
Along with helping firefighters, Beck says the facilities are designed to help residents.
The initial cost estimate was $6.2 million at 15th and Industrial. Beck says the project remains under budget as construction continues.
Station 2 work should be done by early spring 2027. Plans for filling the former headquarters space at the south end of White Auditorium have not been announced.
