Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels says it will be Monday before information is released about a reported incident at the county jail from Tuesday.
This is part of standing policy by the Sheriff’s Office to send out all news releases and arrest logs on Monday.
Initial reports from The Eureka Herald indicated 4 inmates were unresponsive Tuesday afternoon, adding the scene was being investigated as a hazardous gas situation. A later update was more general, saying several inmates were taken to Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka for evaluation. All were in stable condition. Other inmates not taken to Greenwood County Hospital were taken to the Lyon County Jail. The Herald says a cause wasn’t confirmed as of late afternoon, but there was no known gas leak found.
The Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed any parts of this incident.
