The Office of Kansas Attorney General will get over $10 million from Roblox as part of a settlement on child safety reforms.
Attorney General Kris Kobach says Roblox will pay $9,8 million to his office over 3 years. Also, Roblox will underwrite a 3-year, $500,000 multimedia public awareness campaign about child safety specifically for Kansas residents. Failure to comply would result in an additional $10 million in damages to the state.
As part of the agreement, Roblox will mandate age-assurance measures for both new and existing users. It will also offer additional control mechanisms for parents, chat restrictions for users under age 18 with unknown adults, enhanced chat moderation features and constant monitoring among other enhancements.
Roblox, a popular gaming company, has come under fire the past few years because child predators have been able to bypass earlier safety protocols.
Kobach says this follows a multi-state agreement with Meta, the Facebook and Instagram parent company, on child safety practices. The state will receive over $130 million with that settlement.
