Repatriation activities are coming next weekend for a pair of Bushong natives killed in WWII; however, the brothers will be returning to the local area this week.
Sgts. Jay and William Moreland will be brought to Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home by military escort between 1 pm and 1:30 pm Friday. The formal repatriation ceremony will take place Saturday, October 10th inside Bushong Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
The Moreland brothers served in World War II and were aboard a landing craft that struck underwater German mines during the invasion of Omaha Beach on D-Day. Both of their remains were positively identified earlier this year.
The Moreland brothers’ repatriation will follow similar activities for fellow Bushong native Sgt. John Owen Herrick who was returned home back in November of 2024 and was also killed in action during World War II.
