Signs of flooding are disappearing in Lyon County after heavy rainfall Thursday.
River-based flood warnings for the Neosho River near Emporia and the Marais des Cygnes River above Reading were canceled early as both rivers went back within their banks Friday.
There are still several Lyon County roads that are closed after anywhere from 1 to 4 inches of rainfall:
*Road 150 from Road J to Kansas Highway 99; from Road N to Road P
*300 block Road 180
*1700 block Road D
*Road J from Road 140 to Road 150
Portions of Osage County are still showing evidence of the heavy rain, with a bridge along 237th between Docking and Valencia, 2 miles west of Osage City, closed after a bridge washed out. Several other county and township roads, especially east of Lyndon, were impassable as of last word.
Thursday’s rainfall also led to an injury crash on the Kansas Turnpike southwest of Emporia. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the wreck at Turnpike mile marker 119.8 southbound happened around 7:45 pm. A pickup driven by 26-year-old Ashley Navarro of Spring, Texas, hydroplaned and hit the center barrier wall. The truck was pulling a trailer, which detached during the wreck.
Spring and a passenger, 31-year-old Joshua Navarro Vega of Spring, Texas, were both taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries.
KVOE will update you when these roads open and, if necessary, when other roads close.
