One man initially charged with drug distribution, drug possession, trafficking contraband into the Lyon County Jail and aggravated child endangerment was convicted on all counts against him.
Jeffrey Jon Sperry was arrested in mid-November 2025 and convicted Friday on 1 count of distributing methamphetamine, as well as 2 counts of possessing methamphetamine and single counts of possessing paraphernalia for different reasons, trafficking contraband and transporting an open container of alcohol.
The Kansas Courts online portal indicates Sperry was acquitted of aggravated child endangerment for exposing a child to the manufacture or sale of meth, and KVOE News initially reported the acquittal as listed. Assistant Lyon County Attorney Ashely McGee says the jury convicted Sperry on that count as well.
Sperry made several motions to dismiss the case throughout the court proceedings and also request the trial be held out of the Fifth Judicial District, alleging he could not get a fair and impartial trial with Lee Fowler as the presiding judge. That request was eventually denied.
Sentencing is tentatively set for October 20.
