Lyon County’s road network saw some closures and minor damage from last week’s deluge of rainfall; however, Lyon County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield said the network held up well despite the recent flooding.
In total, four roads remain closed as of last word due to water over the roadways following 1-4 inches of rain Thursday into Friday of last week. Those roads include:
*Road 150: Closed from Road J to Kansas Highway 99, and from Road N to Road P.
*Road 180: Closed in the 300 block.
*Road D: Closed in the 1700 block.
*Road J: Closed from Road 140 to Road 150.
A fifth stretch of road, Road E between Road 10 and Road 20, also remains closed due to damage at a low river crossing as a result of the rainfall runoff.
Scritchfield noted that crews are continuing to survey roads at this time and will make repairs where necessary; however, he does not anticipate anything significant to arise as a result.
On a separate note, there are several projects ongoing in the area at this time, namely bridge work, with Scritchfield saying everything is continuing to progress on schedule with no disruptions caused by last week’s weather. That said, he did note one project, on Road 110, is on hold; however, that is simply due to scheduling matters.
While the road network did not experience any major damage, if drivers do come to barricaded roadways, they are reminded to not pass or move said barricades or drive on any roadways with water of any amount over the top of it.
