Emporia Fire parked outside its old headquarters space to investigate a reported gas leak Tuesday morning.
Firefighters went to the south side of White Auditorium after the leak was reported at the Emporia Police Department garage shortly before 9:30 am. Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says the smell was due to sewer gas, not natural gas, and firefighters cleared the scene within a few minutes.
Firefighters moved from their space at White Auditorium to their new headquarters in the 500 block of Market earlier this year.
