Emporia High football hits the road for the final time in the regular season Friday night, traveling to Manhattan to take on the Indians.
The matchup features two teams heading in opposite directions.
After winning their first two games of the season, the Spartans have dropped three straight, including a 24-8 loss to Washburn Rural last Friday.
Meanwhile, Manhattan has won each of its last three games by an average margin of nearly 40 points.
The Indians also dominated last year’s meeting, winning 41-6 after outscoring Emporia 27-nothing over the final three quarters.
Head coach Daniel Goodman remembers that night.
Junior Oliver Kline was all over the field against Washburn Rural. He led the Black and Red with nine tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble.
Kline says the coaching staff has stressed the challenge Manhattan presents.
Goodman says the Indians’ biggest strength is their ability to play as a team, rather than relying on one or two standout players.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night. Coverage begins at 6:45 on AM 1400 and 96.9 FM KVOE.
