The Emporia High girls tennis team is gearing up for what could be their final competition of 2026 as postseason play arrives.
The Lady Spartans travel to Andover on Saturday for regionals, where they will face off against a deep field including Andover, Andover Central, Arkansas City, Newton, Salina Central, Salina South, and Valley Center.
Head coach Saul Trujillo says the regular season has tested the girls for the postseason.
In singles, Izabella Hinst enters the tournament with the team’s best chance at qualifying for state. On the doubles side, Chelsea Mendez and Alexa Tovar look to punch their ticket after just missing out last year. To reach the state tournament, competitors must secure a top-six finish at the regional meet.
Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Andover District Tennis Complex.
