To highlight Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, community members gathered to learn information and receive hands-on training surrounding sudden cardiac arrest.
Former paramedic Duane Billinger hosted a CPR training session at Little Lyons Daycare in Emporia on Saturday. He shared why learning hands-on compressions and CPR is such an important skill to know.
Billinger also shared the difference between a heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest.
Billinger says it’s important for individuals to be aware of the topic, as he believes it will lead to higher survival rates.
The event wasn’t just limited to those learning CPR for the first time. Arrianna Johnson, who has been CPR certified for over four years, used the event not only as a way to refresh her skills but also to reinforce the importance of being prepared for an emergency.
At the event, members were able to get live results from their compressions. Johnson shared with KVOE why being able to receive feedback and results is just as important and how it can help in case of an emergency.
