Sunday’s third annual car show benefiting the Flint Hills Technical College wrangler ranch food pantry brought community members together to help students facing food and hunger insecurity.
Beacon for Hope Suicide Prevention Director and car show organizer Melissa Owen shared with KVOE that the organization has worked with FHTC and St. Marks Lutheran church for the past three years to help students facing food insecurity. Owen also stated how community members can help stock the pantry.
Beacon for Hope has hosted several community events over the past weeks, including the 5th annual Hope with Horsepower community car show benefiting veteran suicide prevention. Although all of the events are separate, they share a common goal of spreading awareness.
Robert Sieberns, an instructor and division chair of technology for FHTC, shared why this car show is meaningful to him as an automotive instructor.
Sunday’s event included activities for all ages, including a Hot Wheels race and participant voting for the top 9 cars. The event also gave a president’s choice award, which is selected by FHTC’s President, Dr. Caron Daugherty’s favorite vehicle of the day.
