Three Emporia High golfers earned state tournament berths on Monday, led by a fourth-place finish from Taylen Koch at the Class 5A regional tournament at Topeka’s Lake Shawnee Golf Course.
Koch fired an 18-over-par round to secure her top-five finish, while teammates Kelsey Shull and Kynlee Maxfield tied for 14th at 32-over par to grab the final individual state-qualifying spots.
The Lady Spartans placed fourth overall, missing the final team qualifying berth by just 12 strokes behind Basehor-Linwood.
Koch, Shull, and Maxfield advance to represent Emporia next week at the 5A State Golf Tournament, held at Hesston Golf Course.
