MIAA Offensive Player of the Week Ella Favot scored three minutes into the match and Peyton Pipes chipped in two of her own scores as ESU beat Missouri Southern 3-2 on a chilly and windy Friday at the ESU Pitch in Emporia. Favot picked up her eighth goal of the year on an Avery Zimmerman assist before the Lions tied it up midway through the first period. Pipes replied with two goals in the next 10 minutes but the Lions clawed back for one less than two minutes before the half. Both teams had chances in the second half but the gusty wind made chances difficult said ESU head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn.
Favot picked up her second MIAA Offensive Player of the Week award earlier this week and gave credit to her teammates for her success.
The Lady Hornets outshot the Lions 22-13 overall including 15-5 in the second half but missed on several close chances late. E-State (7-3-4, 4-1-3, MIAA) faces a quick turnaround as they start a three-game road swing on Sunday with a match at Central Missouri.
