Emporia High tennis extended its state postseason run on Friday as the doubles team of Alexa Tovar and Chelsea Mendez advanced to Saturday at the 5A State Tournament.
Competing at the Andover District Tennis Complex, the Spartans saw mixed results on the opening day of state play:
After dropping their opening match, Alexa Tovar and Chelsea Mendez rallied in the consolation bracket. The duo bounced back with back-to-back victories in their second and third matches to secure their spot in Saturday’s tournament action.
Izabella Hinst represented Emporia in the singles draw, coming up short in two hard-fought matches to bring her season to an end.
