As Lyon County’s off-site advanced voting opportunity comes to a close, the high volume of voters that began streaming through the doors Wednesday has not slowed down.
According to Lyon County Election Officer Amy Jones, advanced voting has now reached 1,020 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building after another 341 voters cast their ballots Friday. This is the second-highest number since voting began, trailing only Thursday’s numbers, which saw more than 400 voters cast their ballots.
Registered voters still have one day to utilize the off-site voting option with county election staff on hand at the Anderson Building Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. Once the off-site event wraps up, advance voting will shift to the Lyon County Clerk’s Office inside the Lyon County Courthouse beginning Monday during normal business hours.
Residents wanting to vote by mail can still request a ballot through Oct. 27. There is currently a 3-day grace period for those ballots to return to election offices after Nov. 3, but several cases are still working through court reviews, so voters are urged to get their ballots in no later than Election Day to avoid any issues.
Jones says as of Friday, her office has sent out just over 600 mail ballots. Jones will join KVOE’s primetime Newsmaker at 7:20 am Monday to discuss advance voting and additional election details.
