The No. 18 Emporia State volleyball team clawed back from a set down to beat No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney 22-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-17 to go 2-0 at the MIAA Mid-Season Tournament at Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Mo. on Saturday. UNK built an 11-4 lead that the Lady Hornets could never overcome in the first set. ESU jumped out to an early five point lead before eventually leading 22-14 in the second on the way to tying the match. After hanging on for win in a tight third set, ESU used a 9-1 run in the fourth to blow the match open and put away UNK to avenge a conference loss in Kearney earlier this season. Lavra Krizanic and Maja Ciosek each tallied 17 kills while ESU went back to the 6-2 system with Brailee Bogle dishing 32 assists while Delainee Dexter added 23. Krzanic and Dexter each went for a double-double adding 13 and 10 digs respectively while Jade Xu policed the net with seven blocks. The win ended the Lopers’ 21-match winning streak. It’s the second time that the Hornets have taken three of four matches from UNK and the first since winning three-straight over the Lopers in the 1976 and 1977 seasons. E-State (19-3, 4-2 MIAA) returns to MIAA action on the road Friday when they travel to Missouri Southern.
