KVOE will host an on-air fundraiser Tuesday, Oct. 27, for one of the many local organizations making a difference in the community.
Camp Hope, an inclusive summer camp for children with autism, is a program executive director Jessica Knuth said is dedicated to providing students with special needs a place to learn, grow and connect with others.
Originally a full-day summer program, Knuth said Camp Hope partners with other community organizations to give these students the opportunities they may not receive otherwise.
From money handling and shopping to interacting with others and building relationships in the community, Knuth said she and her team at Camp Hope work with each student to develop the crucial life skills they need to succeed.
Providing these opportunities for students, Camp Hope board member Lindsey Hopkins said, is what makes the program so special.
As the parent of a child with autism who’s benefited from the program’s many offerings, Hopkins said Camp Hope has been life-changing for her family.
Amanda Cunningham, executive director of CrossWinds Counseling & Wellness, a Camp Hope community partner, echoed Hopkins and said being able to support a program that benefits so many kids in the community is a blessing for her team at the counseling center.
Though the program is capped at 25 students per session, Knuth said she and her staff are committed to serving as many kids as they can for as long as they can.
For those interested in supporting Camp Hope, tune in to KVOE from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and text in your donations throughout the day to help provide a positive and, in some cases, life-changing opportunity for folks in our community.
