An Emporia woman was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Emporia Monday evening.
According to the Emporia Police Department, the accident was reported just after 7 pm at 8th and Merchant. EPD says the accident unfolded as a pedestrian, identified as Becky Mishler, was crossing the street at 8th Avenue while an SUV driven by 23-year-old Terr Reel of Emporia was traveling northbound on Merchant.
EPD says Reel took their eyes off the road momentarily, leading to the impact with Mishler. Mishler was taken to the hospital with reported injuries to the left half of her body.
Her current status has not been released. Reel was cited for inattentive driving and released from the scene.
