A boil water advisory has been issued for the City of Lebo in Coffey County.
The advisory was issued just before 7 am Thursday, roughly an hour after the city announced it would have a community-wide water outage due to a water main break near West Street and 6th. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the advisory was issued as a result of that break, which resulted in a loss of pressure in the distribution system.
The loss of pressure could result in a loss of chlorine residuals and a higher risk of bacterial contamination. The city will have to submit water samples to the KDHE labs in Topeka before the advisory can be lifted.
In the meantime, residents are advised to take the following precautions:
*Boil water for one minute before drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water.
* Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
* Flush water lines if water appears dirty by letting the water run until it clears.
* Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.

6 am Thursday: City of Lebo to have community-wide water outage due to recent water main break Thursday
The City of Lebo will be without water for a period on Thursday.
According to a social media post from the City of Lebo, due to a water main leak near West Street and 6th, repair crews will have to shut down the town’s water towers, leading to a town-wide water outage. The city says all city customers will be without service for approximately 2 hours; however, it has not stated the exact work timeframe.
The water main break was originally reported Wednesday and was the second main break reported to affect the town in the last week. This past Tuesday, Coffey County Rural Water District #3 reported a main break that affected Lebo as well as additional customers at 27th Road between West Street and Emmer Road.
The City will have additional updates as the process unfolds.
