Phi Delta Theta’s 41st annual pole sit to benefit SOS wrapped up Saturday morning after 28 consecutive hours of active members, alumni, ESU faculty and staff and community partners taking turns sitting atop the 14-foot pole to raise money for the organization.
His first time running the event, PDT’s philanthropy chairman Logan Griffin said the fundraiser ran smoothly despite his first-year jitters.
On his site checks throughout the night, Griffin said energy was high as folks took turns taking the pole for the duration of their choosing, with some community members, Griffin said, going above and beyond for the cause.
As of 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, Griffin said PDT had raised $8,000 of the fraternity’s $15,000 goal, though cash and alumni donations had yet to be counted when KVOE caught up with him Saturday morning.
That, paired with the donation window being open for another couple weeks, Griffin said he’s hopeful PDT surpassed their goal for a cause he’s passionate about.
As a senior, Griffin said his last pole sit as an active member was bittersweet. Even so, he said he’s looking forward to carrying this tradition forward into the future.
For folks who couldn’t make PDT’s pole sit, donations can be delivered to SOS by visiting the organization directly at 1420 C of E Drive from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
