Halloween is still to come, but members of the Emporia Church of Christ are already focused on Thanksgiving.
Specifically, the congregation is in full preparation mode for its annual free community Thanksgiving meal, which Pastor Neil Taylor says began in the midsummer months.
The meal will take place from 11 am to 1 pm on the holiday inside the church’s banquet hall at 502 W 12th Ave. Church pastor Neil Taylor, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show, stated that, as always, the menu will include all of the traditional holiday fixings.
As mentioned, the entire congregation comes together to put on the meal, with Taylor saying it is always important to care for others, but the fact that members give up such a large portion of their own holidays to provide that service is something he is very proud of.
This is the 36th year for the community meal, and Taylor says it was an event that left him and his wife in awe the first time they experienced it over 14 years ago.
Again, the meal is completely free, and all are welcome to partake. Both dine-in and carry-out options are available.
