All Hallows’ Eve is almost upon us and local law enforcement is reminding parents and trick-or-treaters to have fun, but to do so safely.
During KVOE’s Morning Show Wednesday, Emporia Police Sgt. Dominick Vortherms joined the Newsmaker 2 segment to discuss Halloween safety tips, starting with making sure costumes are visible and functional. Vortherms says it is always a good idea to make sure kids are as visible as possible.
Also, Vortherms says for kiddos that may be wearing masks, it is important to ensure the rest of the world is visible to them.
Vortherms also says children should not be going door-to-door by themselves.
Once the trick-or-treating concludes, Vortherms says safety doesn’t stop. When it comes to the candy gathered during the evening’s festivities, Vortherms encourages parents to thoroughly inspect all sweets before their children consume them.
Local law enforcement is also encouraging families to do some research before they head out into the night, specifically when it comes to registered offenders in the area. Residents can find that information by visiting OffenderWatch.
