The shutout marked the first time this season Emporia had been held scoreless.
Hutchinson wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, putting together a six-play opening drive to take a 7-0 lead. The Black and Red responded with a lengthy possession, using 17 plays to eat up much of the first-half clock. However, the drive came to an end on a turnover on downs.
The Salthawks took advantage, finding the end zone for a second time to extend their lead to 14-0.
Emporia’s next possession ended with a fumble deep in Spartan territory, giving Hutchinson another scoring opportunity. The EHS defense came through, however, as the Salthawks missed a field goal to end the first half with the score still 14-0.
The Spartans opened the second half with another turnover on downs. Hutchinson quickly capitalized, rushing in for its third touchdown of the night to push the advantage to 21-0.
One of the highlights for Emporia came on a 33-yard run by Ben Collins, providing a bright spot on an otherwise difficult night for the Spartans.
Hutchinson added two more touchdowns to secure the 35-0 victory and advance in the 5A playoffs.
Emporia finishes the season with a 4-5 record, bringing its 2026 campaign to an end.
