The David Traylor Zoo hosted its annual Boo in the Zoo event to celebrate Halloween on Saturday.
Over 1,000 community members braved the rain and stood in line to enjoy the zoo’s slate of spooky activities, which zoo director Brenda Young said was just as exciting this year as it was during her first Boo in the Zoo last year.
As she looks back on the event that’s preceded her two-year tenure by over two decades, Young said carrying the tradition forward as she leads the charge at the zoo is a top priority for her.
Emily Brooks and her five children are one of those families that have added Boo in the Zoo to their list of annual traditions. As the parent of children with autism, Brooks said the event is one that feels inclusive for her and her kids.
When she looks ahead to the future, Young said she’s hopeful to make Boo in the Zoo even bigger and better next year. For now, Young said she and her team are just grateful to provide opportunities for the community to come together.
For those who couldn’t make Boo in the Zoo, the David Traylor Zoo will host its annual Happy Holidaze event from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 24.
