The Hartford City Council is meeting Wednesday evening to discuss the next steps in its rebuild of Hartford City Hall.
According to Mayor Kenny Hamman, excavation work is nearly complete after demolition of the former City Hall ended last month, and Hamman noted that additional work developed shortly after the building was brought to the ground.
Once they finish filling in the demolition site, work can progress on the new building, for which Hamman says they have a design but not an exact cost.
Hamman says the cost of the project will be the main focus for city council members when they convene Wednesday evening. As KVOE News has reported, the city received $500,000 for the construction of the new building with insurance covering the entire cost of the demolition work; however, Hamman says it is not clear at this time if insurance will also cover the cost of the additional excavation work recently completed.
The demolition of the previous city hall followed a damaging windstorm that blew the top of the building off on July 4th and caused other significant structural damage. Wednesday’s meeting will take place at 7 pm inside the new Hartford community building.
