The First Congregational Church of Emporia is gearing up for its annual toy closet.
A tradition that started about three years ago, church pastor Ashton McDonald said the holiday-inspired initiative will start next month.
Though the church has done the drive before, this is the first year McDonald said they’ve been able to partner with other organizations in the community, which he said helped make the event that much more impactful.
During the church’s baby closet hours– 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays– McDonald said families from across the counties the church serves are welcome to stop in to participate.
As an Emporia Match Day participant experiencing a record-level of visitors in need, McDonald said he and his team will take all the help they can get at the church’s baby closet and toy closet, especially considering the high prices community members are seeing on grocery store shelves these days.
