Water issues and the recent 5A State Basketball tournament were the focus of updates presented by Emporia Rec Director Tom McEvoy during the Emporia Recreation Commission’s monthly meeting Monday evening.
According to McEvoy, the recent water loss experienced at the ERC’s new maintenance facility at Santa Fe Park has been fully resolved. McEvoy says the issue developed last month prior to the record-setting cold snap that impacted the area.
McEvoy says the exact cause of the issue has not been disclosed, however, the city of Emporia has made the repairs needed and he is confident similar issues will not develop in the future.
The second update was related to the 5A State Basketball Tournament held at White Auditorium last week. McEvoy says KSHSAA representatives, participating teams and school administrators all were extremely pleased with the efficiency of the tournament.
McEvoy would credit staff and volunteers at the tournament for their communication and teamwork as the major key to the event’s success. With the 2021 tournament now in the rearview, McEvoy says they’re already looking forward to hosting another state tournament next year.
Additionally Monday, the ERC received the monthly leadership team updates and approved the purchase of payroll management software.
The Emporia Recreation Commission will hold its next monthly meeting on Monday, Apr. 19 at 5:30 pm inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
