The season came to a heartbreaking end for the Emporia State womens basketball team Friday night. The Lady Hornets were outscored by Minnesota Duluth 76-70 in overtime in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Central Regional tournament.
The Lady Hornets had built a 12 point lead with over 4 minutes to play in the game before Minnesota Duluth went on a 15-3 run to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Lady Hornets went over 3 minutes without scoring and went the final 5:50 of the game without a field goal. Ehlaina Hartmans and 1 gave Emporia State a 6 point lead with 50 seconds to play.
In the overtime, the Lady Hornets were held to 2 free throws.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn gave Minnesota Duluth credit for continuing to battle.
Emporia State was led in scoring by Freshman Ehlaina Hartman who finished with 22 points.
Tre’Zure Jobe added 16 points.
Fredricka Sheats finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Duluth was led by Brooke Olson with 31 points and 14 rebounds.
Duluth will play Nebraska Kearny in the semifinals.
Central Missouri won the other quarterfinal game outscoring St. Cloud State 66-52. Central Missouri will play Fort Hays State in the semifinals.
