If you’re Phase 2-eligible for a coronavirus vaccine, you can go online to schedule an appointment as soon as Monday.
Lyon County continues to work through Phase 2 of the vaccination process with seniors, high-contact critical workers, food production workers, K-12 staff and daycare providers all eligible for shots at this time, and it’s starting a self-scheduling option through its website, www.publichealth.lyoncounty.org. On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday, Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern said people in Phase 1 and 2 will be allowed to set up appointments next week. She’s reminding residents the demand may outstrip supply.
This comes as Lyon County is set to vaccinate over 1,000 people this week through a variety of clinics. It also comes as the federal government says it plans to buy 100 million more Johnson and Johnson doses.in an effort to get all American adults vaccinated by the end of May.
Separately, Millbern said she was concerned by the Emporia Public Schools’ decision to return all non-remote Emporia Middle School and Emporia High students to those buildings starting March 29. Part of her concern is in the difference in social distancing between Step 4 and Step 5.
Millbern is a member of the district’s COVID-19 Advisory Committee, which actually recommended going from the current Step 3 — 50 percent of the student body going every other day — to Step 4, or 75 percent of students going four days a week. On Wednesday, the board voted 6-1 to move to Step 5, citing current stats, staff vaccinations and learning loss as reasons for getting students back into buildings.
