Monday’s extreme fire danger did not result in any fire activity across the KVOE listening area, but the fire danger will still be high the next few days.
Wind advisories are up for Lyon, Chase, Coffey and Greenwood counties from 12-6 pm Tuesday, while Chase and Morris counties are in a fire weather watch from 12-7 pm Wednesday.
Humidity levels will be slightly higher Tuesday than they have been recently, but they could be under 20 percent Wednesday. Combined with temperatures in the 70s, dry grasses and wind speeds as high as 45 mph, the fire danger will stay at least in the high category until a chance of showers and storms — some possibly strong to severe — Wednesday evening.
Emporia will not allow burning when wind speeds go above 15 mph, and the current forecast doesn’t have gusts below 15 mph until perhaps Saturday night. Several counties remain in county-specific burn bans at this time. Chase and Wabaunsee counties have issued bans until Thursday. Morris and Osage counties are in burn bans until further notice.
