Recent caseload trends are cause for relief for Lyon County health officials, but they aren’t enough to have them tell you to stop COVID-19 mitigation strategies yet.
Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says the county’s data set is definitely moving in the right direction.
Lyon County added just 25 cases last week, including two Friday, after adding 66 cases the prior week.
Millbern’s guidance followed decisions recently by Texas and Mississippi to remove all statewide COVID-19 restrictions. Millbern says Lyon County’s guidance on continued mask use and social distancing is based on a goal of stopping the virus from transmitting and variants from taking hold. She also says the county wants vaccines to help develop herd immunity, which may happen by late spring in some parts of the country.
KVOE continues to keep you informed about the ongoing coronavirus response. Our next COVID-19 Vaccination Briefing will be at 8:20 am Monday on KVOE and KVOE.com, while Millbern will join us for her weekly overall update at 7:15 am Thursday.
