A cause and damage estimates are pending following a house fire in west Emporia late Saturday morning.
Fire crews were called to 3625 Caribou Lane for a report of a house fire shortly after 10 am. Once on scene crews found the back porch of the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters managed to knock down the fire quickly but not before it caused what is being called “moderate” damage to the backside of the home and heat damage to a neighboring house. Captain Ryan Schmidt says no other hot spots were located inside the home and nobody was home at the time of the fire.
Schmidt also says due to the extent of damage the origination point was likely located on the patio of the home, however, a cause has yet to be determined. Hartford Neosho Rapids fire crews were also called to the scene to serve as mutual aid.
