After two days of nearly-constant firefighting activity, Emporia firefighters had a short break before another grass fire developed Friday.
Lyon County District 4, Emporia’s rural unit, went to the 1200 block of Road 140 about 1.5 miles south of Emporia after a small fire started shortly before 1 pm. Less than five acres burned. The fire was reportedly close to some equipment and a house but was turned away before causing damage.
Emporia and area firefighters were extremely busy both Wednesday and Thursday, and the forecast calls for a high fire danger starting again Saturday with temperatures in the 60s combined with breezy conditions.
