.Burlingame and Olpe advanced to the girls substate championship final of the Madison substate tournament Thursday evening
Burlingame managed to stave off a late comeback by the Lebo Lady Wolves to advance with a 47-45 overtime win.
Despite Lebo opening the scoring, Burlingame would take the lead midway through the first quarter building it to as many as 10 through the first half. Burlingame would maintain the lead until the fourth quarter where Lebo would outscore Burlingame 11-8 and would force overtime with the score knotted at 37.
Burlingame would manage to outscore Lebo 10-8 in the overtime period and senior Emmy Punches hit a last-second shot to lock up the win.
Burlingame was led in scoring by Punches and junior Daelyn Winters with 10 points each.
Burlingame head coach Jeff Slater says that game was exactly what they expected it to be.
Lebo sophomore Brooklyn Jones led all scorers with 22 points.
In the second semifinal game, Olpe outscored Cair Paravel 67-19 to advance to the substate final.
Olpe opened the scoring early in the first to build a lead they would never relinquish out scoring Cair Paravel 20-8 in the first and 26-5 in the second. In the second half, Olpe would outscore the Lady Lions 21-6 overall to clinch the win.
Olpe had three players end the night in double figures. Senior Marley Heins led all scorers with 16 points. Fellow seniors May Bishop and Lauryn Broyles both added 10 points.
Head Coach Jesse Nelson says he was pleased with his team’s effort on the night.
Junior Jaley Barkley led Cair Paravel in scoring with ten points.
The girl’s substate championship game will be played at 2 pm on Saturday.
