Northwest Missouri State used a 16-0 run in the 1st to build a 19 point lead and never looked back on the way to a 100-61 win over the Emporia State men in the opening round of the MIAA tournament Wednesday night.
Emporia State was trailing 8-5 when they went over 5 minutes without scoring and Northwest went on a 16-0 run and Emporia State never recovered.
Northwest led at halftime 60-19 and would lead by as many as 50 in the 2nd half. Emporia State would outscore Northwest 42-40 in the second half but it was not enough.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty gave credit to Northwest.
Jumah’Ri Turner led Emporia State with 12 points. Tyreek Robinson added 11 points.
Northwest was led by Trevor Hudgins, the MIAA Player of the Year, with 31 points.
The Hornets finish the season with an 11-12 record.
Coach Doty said they talked about the positives of the season after the game.
