It will be Monday at the earliest before traffic returns to normal on Kansas Highway 99 north of Emporia.
The highway has been either completely or partially closed since Wednesday evening, when an over-height load of excavating equipment hit the underside of a bridge near Road 240 and damaged at least one girder. One-lane traffic is allowed until further notice, with special traffic signage in place at this time.
It may also be Monday — or later — before the Kansas Department of Transportation announces its findings about the structural integrity of the bridge.
