Free at 3 is returning soon.
Emporia Rescue Mission Director Lee Alderman made the announcement on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia on Friday.
Free at 3 returns March 10.
The program, which started as a partnership between Abundant Harvest and Victory Fellowship Church, was extremely popular last spring and summer but was put on hold with questions about the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic.
There will be some changes to the program, although residents may not notice. Alderman says federal rules changed so food providers have to work in the state where they deliver the food — meaning trucks will come from Kansas City, Kansas, and not from Oklahoma anymore. Current indications are deliveries may take place at 3 pm Wednesdays every other week.
