A new rock quarry network is coming to southeast Lyon County.
Lyon County commissioners approved a conditional use permit that would encompass 200 total acres of agricultural land in the 600 block of Road Y and the 700 block of Road Y-5 south of Hartford. Commission Chair Rollie Martin:
Eagle Creek Stone LLC is operating the quarries. Zoning and Floodplain Administrator Sam Seeley says the conditional use permit requires the land to return to agricultural use once the stone is quarried.
Separately, County Appraiser Ryan Janzen discussed county valuation data after doing so earlier in the week on KVOE. Janzen says most — but not all — property categories saw increased valuations over the past year.
*Residential median sale price climbed $15,000
*Commercial markets increased 2 percent
*Industrial and apartments had increases in about 60 percent of properties
*Entertainment venues largely had valuation decreases
Valuations will be mailed out Monday. Appeals will take place through March.
Near the end of the meeting, Lyon County Health Officer Dr. Ladun Oyenuga and Incident Commander Renee Hively gave their now-weekly update for the commission. Hively says the list of seniors on the Public Health wait list has come down significantly this month — although an interesting issue has developed.
Hively says the wait list is now much lower than where it was two weeks ago, so other Phase 2-eligible populations like education and critical workers, specifically at Tyson, may get more focus as soon as next week.
Hively says there is also a new grant for local health departments that could provide $250,000 to Public Health so it can hire temporary data entry, customer service and marketing personnel over a 30-month period.
