The Emporia State mens basketball team celebrated senior night with a 97-72 win over Northeastern State Wednesday night.
Coach Craig Doty said they played with a purpose.
Senior Duncan Fort set the tone making 3 straight threes in the first half on the way to a career-high 18 points.
Senior Austin Downing, playing in memory of his grandfather, Chic Downing, who passed away earlier this week, finished with 13 points and 7 assists.
Senior Jumah’Ri Turner scored a team-high 20 points. Gage McGuire added 17 points, Mayuom Buom finished with 12 points and Mason Thiessen scored 11 points.
The Emporia State men and women play again tonight at Pittsburg State.
Coach Doty said they will need to match Pitt States physicality.
The winner of Thursdays game will have the advantage in advancing to the MIAA tournament.
The womens game also has several implications.
Coach Toby Wynns team with a win wraps up a home game in the first round of the MIAA tournament.
The Lady Hornets remain on the list of schools under consideration for the NCAA tournament.
Game times tonight are 5:30 for the women and 7:30 for the men.
