The Emporia High girls wrestling team will be going into the State tournament ranked 3rd in girls Division I. They are ranked behind Washburn Rural and Wichita North.
5 Lady Spartans are ranked. Ranked 3rd are Madelynn Griffin at 126 pounds,
and Virginia Munoz at 138 pounds.
Ranked 4th are Hannah Boa at 143 pounds,
and Trinity Ervin at 191 pounds.
Megan Olson is ranked 6th at 235 pounds.
Evelin Geronimo at 101 pounds will also be wrestling at state.
Coach Shawn Russell, who was named the Leavenworth Substate coach of the year says this has been a very successful season.
The Girls State tournament will be held Thursday at Hartman Arena in Park City.
The boys state tournament will be held Friday.
Emporia Highs Xerarch Tungjaroenkul is ranked 4th at 145 pounds.
Bobby Trujillo is ranked 6th at 182 pounds.
All of the girls and boys matches will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
Matches begin at noon on both days.
