The Emporia State baseball team opened their season with an 11-3 win over Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday.
The Hornets scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and never trailed.
They scored 4 unearned runs in the 6th inning and added 3 more runs in the 9th.
Jack Maki was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI.
Quinn Cherry was 3 for 4 and scored 3 runs.
Jared Kengott was the winning pitcher going 5 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts.
The Hornets and Colorado State-Pueblo are scheduled to play a doubleheader Sunday and a single game Monday.
