Emporia State University President Allison Garrett capped off a one-of-a-kind Founder’s Day Celebration Friday with a major announcement.
President Garrett unveiled the new ESU Together, Forward Capital Campaign. According to Garrett the campaign is focused on student advancement and revolves around three key pillars.
1. High impact learning
2. Attracting the best talents in arts and athletics
3. Unrestricted support through the Together, Forward fund.
Garrett says all three pillars are critically important to the betterment of their students, specifically the opportunity for additional high-impact learning. Garett says these opportunities make a major difference in the caliber of experience for every student.
The goal of the Together Forward Campaign is $50 million over the next several months with $42 million already being generated in the campaign’s silent phase.

In addition to the announcement, Friday’s virtual celebration included the announcement of the 2021 1863 Scholarship Essay contest winners. This year’s second-place essay came from Graduate Student Emily Boydston with first place going to Library Science Graduate Student Hanzzlett Henderson.
Henderson received a $1,000 reward for placing first while Boydston received a $863 reward. A total of 55 essays were judged as part of the competition.
