US Senator Roger Marshall is asking the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources to take a closer look at the electric grid’s reliability after severe cold put extreme pressures on energy providers.
In a letter to ranking committee member John Barrasso, Marshall says he wants questions answered about reliability, resilience and affordability whenever electricity and natural gas systems are stressed.
Marshall is asking for a hearing on the topic, specifically asking why there weren’t more preparations for conditions such as overnight lows under -15 across much of the state Monday and Tuesday and lows of around zero as far south as Ardmore, Oklahoma, or Wichita Falls, Texas.
The Southwest Power Pool is not in an energy alert, but it is asking for voluntary energy conservation at least into Saturday.
