Frozen pipes and waterlines will be a major concern to close out the weekend and start off the upcoming week.
In fact, several Emporians have already called the Public Works Department this weekend to report frozen service lines or areas near their meters. Public Works Director Dean Grant says it will be a good idea for homeowners and tenants to let their lines at least drip overnight, if not have a steady low-level flow to keep the water running and thus cut down the chances of freezing.
So far, there haven’t been any major issues with waterlines or water mains since Thursday night’s linebreak in the 10 block of West Ninth that flooded several business and nonprofit basements with up to seven inches of water.
Overnight lows could be at zero Saturday night, close to -10 Sunday night and approach -15 Monday night.
