House and building flooding is becoming an issue in Emporia, thanks to colder air than we’ve seen in years and the city’s aging underground infrastructure.
Stover’s Restoration is among the businesses seeing a dramatic increase in calls for help over the past week. Emporia General Manager Jordan Stover says calls have quadrupled in number just since Wednesday.
Stover says there are a few things residents, landlords and business owners can do to help crews before they arrive. The big one is stopping the incoming water.
Another key is to make sure there are no electrical issues where the water is collecting.
Stover has been especially busy since Thursday night, when an 8-inch waterline failed in the 10 block of West Ninth and a sprinkler head failed inside Newman Regional Health. He says his crews come dressed for the conditions and the business has special equipment to keep crew members as safe as possible.
