Emporia Fire crews put out a fire in a downtown apartment Friday afternoon.
Fire was reported at 1101 Merchant No. 3 shortly before 1 pm. Fire Chief Jack Taylor says the fire was put out quickly. The building has several apartment units. Those were checked for potential extension but none was found.
Official word on a cause and origination point are pending. The 1100 block of Merchant and the 10 block of West 11th have been closed to traffic with the investigation underway.
