If your furnace or heat pump are experiencing issues in this cold, you’re not alone.
Heating repair companies have been busy all week, and their loads could get busier with overnight low temperatures at or below zero through Tuesday night. Modern Air co-owner Travis Sullivan says there have been a range of issues so far this week.
Sullivan says heating units will run constantly at subzero temperatures. When that happens, weak motors, capacitors, blower motors, inducer motors and other components are likely to have problems.
Traditional furnaces aren’t the only heater options that can have issues in this cold. Sullivan says heat pumps can ice up quickly in these conditions, so any extra noises should prompt a call to an expert.
